Tangent Stool
This stool is formed from three rolled sheets of powder-coated steel, each meeting at a precise tangent to create a continuous, flowing silhouette. The structure narrows to a central pinch point before opening back out, giving the piece a sense of lightness and balance despite its solid material.
The seat introduces a subtle curve that gently supports the body, while the legs retain a slight spring, allowing the material to respond under weight. What appears rigid becomes quietly dynamic in use.
Inspired by Sori Yanagi’s Butterfly Stool, this piece explores a sheet metal reinterpretation of that softness. By working with the inherent elasticity of rolled steel, it challenges the expectation of metal as static, instead offering a seating experience that feels responsive, fluid, and unexpectedly human.
